I fell asleep from 4:30 am until 7:30 am. Off to a great start… I’ve really gotten used to my nap times now. I get really tired a few minutes before and I pretty much always fall asleep. It makes for a very relaxing study break to completely reboot. (more…)
Polyphasic 3.0
After several days of somewhat disorganized but refreshing sleep, I’m ready to get back on the schedule. On top of sleeping at night, I’ve also been taking naps during the day. Most of them have been successful, but the 8:30 pm nap is really difficult to take, because there is a general high level of energy and often an activity I have to go to. (more…)
Last Monophasic Day
I’m going to make today my last monophasic day. I slept about 7-8 hours last night. I just took a 10 minute nap and I feel fantastic. I’m going to switch back to Uberman soon but I can’t decide whether to start immediately or have one more full night’s sleep. Regardless, I’m going to take my regular nap times today, but I’ll play tonight by ear.
On a completely different note, I’m an uncle!! My brother’s wife had a child early yesterday evening. His name is Oliver Kurt Georg and he’s gonna be a spoiled baby.
Monophasic Day 2
Ughhhh… Mornings stink.
Last night I stayed up with friends to watch a movie. We started watching at 12:00 and I was pretty tired. When 12:30 hit (my nap time) I got seriously tired. I toughed it out and tried to stay awake, and after about 20 minutes I felt fine, like I hit a second wind.
Interesting. Apparently uberman did condition me to my nap times somewhat. I should try to continue taking naps at those times so that I don’t lose it.
Uber-restart
Last night I woke up to find that I had passed out for two hours on my chair without even knowing how I had gotten there. As long as I’m conscious, I have the willpower to force myself awake, but I’m starting to pass out and not even notice how it happened… There’s not a whole lot I can do about that. So I’ve decided to take a break from uberman for a couple days, sleep at night, sleep well, and try to catch up on the sleep debt. (more…)
Uberman Day 13
Well, as expected, it didn’t last. Last night I turned the alarm off in my sleep and slept 2 hours. Ever since, I’ve been feeling sub-par. I really had trouble staying awake in class today. I can’t connect the ups and downs to anything that I’m doing… it’s completely unpredictable. My body doesn’t seem to be settling down into any kind of daily rhythm, which probably should have happened by this point. The next thing I’m going to try is to take shorter 10 minute naps whenever I feel tired enough that I can’t concentrate. But I’ll never take the naps closer than 1.5 hours from each other. (more…)
Uberman Day 12
I find it fascinating that as soon as I relaxed and told myself that it was ok to sleep in by accident, I stopped accidentally sleeping in. Ever since I had essentially given up, Uberman has suddenly been working. Last night, I automatically woke up before the alarm went off on each of my naps. This morning and afternoon, all of my naps have been successful and refreshing. If I were naive, I’d declare that Uberman is working now, but I’ve been caught off guard too many times during this endeavor to claim that I really have any idea about whether or not I have completely adapted. (more…)
Uberman Day 11
So it turns out College isn’t as structured as I thought. While certainly better than vacation, there are random meetings and things that pop up, and people tend to assume that you are free at 12:00 or 4:00 pm. It’s usually too weird to explain polyphasic sleep to anyone who asks, so I often dodge direct answers… Though, I’m usually happy to brag about my eccentricities to anyone with an open mind. (more…)
Uberman Day 10
Yesterday was spent packing, moving, and unpacking to school. At this point Uberman has completely fallen apart. None of my afternoon naps were productive because I was traveling or with friends, and there’s stuff going on all the time. I woke up from my 12:30 am nap at 6:00… d’oh! I tried setting my alarm to go off through my headphones so as not to awaken my roommate, but it’s pretty easy to rip headphones off your head and continue sleeping. (more…)
Uberman day 9
Perhaps the oversleeping incident wasn’t as crippling as I thought. Staying awake this morning was really difficult, so I took another run. But then I was too exhausted to move. I slept like a lead baby during all of my naps, even one that I took on a friend’s couch, which was only slightly awkward: “Dude, I can’t play Guitar Hero anymore, I need to crash on your couch for 20 minutes while you leave me alone, alright?” (more…)
